Silk has always wielded power over us, and that power created the world as we know it today.
The desire for silk was so great that it created the first trading routes between East and West, and along these ancient routes (known now as the Old Silk Roads) our ancestors exchanged philosophies, secrets, technologies, medicines and the world became smaller, richer and more connected.
I have always been fascinated by power. Having spent fifteen years as a barrister I witnessed the power of the individual and the power of the state - and concluded that both are formidable. As a woman and a mother of daughters I bear daily witness to the power that men and women wield. I am perpetually interested in our own inherent power, which we should not underestimate but often do.
And I am interested in the power historically and instinctively accorded to silk. In Imperial China, the secret of silk production was guarded on pain of death and because silk was so precious and so powerful, only the royal court could wear it. In the Byzantine Empire, silk was used to influence and communicate status. In Japan, silk was seen as sacred and incorporated into elaborate rituals. Across centuries and across continents, people have instinctively recognised the power of silk.
These ancient empires have long since disappeared, but this power within silk continues - currently within regenerative medicine and science.
Power / The Ability to Influence our Skin
When silk is applied to our skin, it brings all its power to it and it directly influences our skin’s natural regenerative processes. Silk forms a shield over our skin, which is perceived by us as the feeling of intense softness and that shield provides antioxidant protection.
The silk peptide signals the proliferation of fibroblast and keratinocyte cells and collagen synthesis. Silk enhances every stage of the skin’s own healing processes on a molecular level.
Silk brings the power of desire, nature, history and science to our skin. It is not like other ingredients. It has not been manufactured by a giant corporation. Silk wields the power of ancient human wisdom and modern medical innovation.
Silk is a mystery of the universe (despite the depth of scientific research it is still an enigma) with the power to regenerate severed nerves inside the human body following paralysis and now it has the power to make a significant impact on all markers of skin health and vitality.
